The Institute recognizes that circumstances beyond the control of the student may occasionally necessitate the extension of a deadline for some coursework beyond the end of the course. In the interest of fairness and equity to all students, the reasons for such extensions must be limited in scope. As a result, deferrals to another course or session are strictly prohibited except in the case of a medical or personal emergency beyond the control of the student.
If an extension is needed because of a medical or personal emergency, the student should let the faculty member know and ask for an extension, explaining why the extension is needed. Faculty have the discretion to accommodate the student by setting a new deadline not to exceed the 90 day read-only extension period. All work in the course in which an extension is granted must be submitted by the deadline established by the instructor.
In rare instances of serious illness or other circumstances beyond the control of the student which, hinder a student’s ability to submit an assignment by the deadline, it is at the discretion of the course faculty and Program Director to determine the appropriate course of action. Students may consult with the Student Services Office in cases that involve confidential or sensitive issues.
